City Skyline of Boston, Massachusetts
Sure, you can take in great views of Boston from the air, but what about when you finally touch down? As one of the nation’s oldest cities, there’s an endless list of places to soak in the harbor and downtown skyline.
Here are just a few of our favorite spots with the best views in Boston:
Best Restaurant with a View
The easy pick for this category is Top of the Hub, where the views from the 52nd story are simply breathtaking. It’s a staple of Boston with a classic menu, but it’s a bit staid, especially for travelers looking to dig deeper into the city’s culinary scene.
Plus, there’s no better way to enjoy a great meal than an outdoor, waterfront patio under the sun. Most waterfront restaurants offer great food or a great view, but not both. Sam’s is a unique exception that’s been serving up healthy doses of both to locals for years. The second floor offers fantastic views of the harbor, a laid-back crowd almost any night of the week, and the food is great to boot. It’s an ideal spot for a romantic night out in the city.
Best Photographic Spot with a View
If it’s stunning views of the Boston skyline you’re after, hop the Boston Harbor Cruise ferry from Long Wharf to Charlestown. Visitors here are afforded excellent views of the city, as well as bonus shots of the USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”). Sunset here is particularly spectacular!
Best Building with a View
The Skywalk Observatory at the Prudential Tower is an easy pick here. Sure it’s a bit touristy, but it provides a stunning 360-degree view of Boston, Cambridge and the Charles River. In spite of the lofty admission fee, the audio tour is worth it for first time visitors as it provides an excellent overview of the city’s past and present. Visiting during the week is best as it’s a popular attraction year round.
Best Outdoor Spot with a View
History buffs and outdoor lovers will appreciate Prospect Hill Monument. Visitors can walk to the base of the monument which is most famous as the site of the first-ever American flag, allegedly raised by George Washington himself. The tower isn’t always open, however visitors are still greeted with excellent views of the Boston skyline and the surrounding towns. In the summer months, it’s an ideal place to relax and watch the world go by.
